Before the coffee is exported, rigorous cup testing and other quality control measures are done to ensure the appearance and cup-quality of the beans to meet the Coffee Industry Board's standards. The Types of Jamaican Coffee The production of Jamaican Coffee, though infinitesimal (approximately 6 million lb.) as against world output, has, as its primary focus, the production of a top quality coffee bean. There are two main categories of coffee as designated by the CIB:
JAMAICA BLUE
MOUNTAIN This type of Jamaican Coffee is normally grown in the parishes of St. Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St. Ann and St. Elizabeth. Most of the cultivation of Prime Coffee could, in fact, be regarded as high grown" being cultivated at altitudes way above sea level but outside of the Blue Mountain range. Jamaica Prime is now internationally regarded as a premium quality gourmet bean in its own right.
